Your Equipment Can Make or Break Your Homemade Wine

So you prepared the best grapes and purchased the best yeast, hoping to soon be able to get a taste of the delicious wine you make yourself, only to find out later that it has turned into a failure. There can be many reasons for this, but let’s point out some of the most common ones that have to do with your equipment.

Inadequate Equipment

Many failures come down to the owner’s inability to attain the right equipment. Using buckets that have been used to store other foods, or used plastic pails can ruin your fermentation process.

Inadequate Sanitization

It can’t be stressed enough how important it is to sanitize your equipment carefully and thoroughly before and after making wine. Everything that comes in contact with your wine should be clean and free from bacteria. The only bacteria that should be present is the yeast that you put in. Any other contamination will ruin your batch.

Follow the Instructions

Unless you are experienced, it’s best to stick to the instructions to a tee. Any deviation may result in a failed batch.
